How do I post my website on a search engine? And how can I get it closer to the top?


I have a small buisiness website and I was wondering how I can put it on a search engine list, and if at all possible how I can get it closer to the top.


You can start with something called directory submission.

Go to google, or other search engines and search for "Site Submit" pages (For google its: http://www.google.com/addurl/)

Then go to pages like dmoz.com and start submitting your site with keywords.

Google "Free SEO Tips" (Search Engine Optimization) and you will find a ton of articals. It might help to hire a professional SEO team to get your site out there.. but lots can be done by yourself.
You either need an internet marketing company ( I work in one that specializes in web optimization ) OR you can learn cool tricks yourself. I would suggest you sign up to http://www.thirtydaychallange.com... and learn a few things yourself.

you can get closer to the top if you optimize your tags for 3 or 4 words - like if someone is looking for your product and types a long phrase in the search box and you have written it exactly the way s/he is searching for it.
