When do I use the word 'is' as opposed to 'are' when describing a companys market position.? |
For example do I say Coca Cola is a leading supplier of soft drink products or Coca Cola are a leading supplier? A company is not viewed as a collection of people. It is considered a single entity in its own right. Therefore, "Coca Cola is a leading supplier ..." Are is for when you are working with the plural as opposed to the singular. Since a company is considered a moral person, it is in the singular. You would use is for the company, but are for the shareholders. Does that help? |
