How can I sale a short ebook, I've made?

I've made a guide, I know can make money. One because I've used it, and two I've sold it to over 37 people on my college campus in two days. How can I go out and make it known that I have this great ebook?

I'd suggest putting up a website with enough details to actually sell the ebook. Tell a little bit about it, enough to let people know what they are buying.

No one will pay you for anything unless they have a good understanding about the product. (what am I buying and why am I buying it??)

As far as the mechanics of selling it, there are several ways. I'm familiar with paypal, so I'll describe a couple ways to do that.

1.) Manual email payment.

The easy way is just to have them contact you, they send you money with paypal and then you email them the ebook.

This is easy, but, your customers may not appreciate having to wait. (in this day and age, people expect to download immediately) that and, ebooks can be filtered out via anti-spam tools so your customer may never actually get the product (consequently, they won't be very happy about it)

2.) PayPal IPN.

The approach is to use a bit of server-side software. (you install a script of some kind on your website) paypal can send notifications to this software through a process known as IPN. (instant payment notification)

Basically, paypal tells your website "Hey, so-and-so just purchased product XYZ for $nn amount of money"

Your website then takes this notification and arranges for a download of the ebook to whoever paid for it.

You can either use a pre-packaged software or write your own.

For pre-made software:

PayVeX:

(Full disclosure, I own payvex)

Payvex will handle the IPN automatically and allow them to download your ebook.

Write Your Own:

I make a PHP class file available for anyone who wishes to do this using object oriented programming. You override the methods you are interested in (for example, check the amount and the txn_id)

Automated downloads via software running on your own website have the advantage in that customers can download instantly and you don't have to split the profits with anyone other than paypal. The disadvantage of course, is that they are a little more involved to set up. (you'll probably need mysql and such)

A caveat with paypal IPN is that for e-checks, (where the customer funds the paypal account with a check) the process isn't so streamlined, there is a waiting period.

You might put up some kind of warning about that on your website or, offer to email these people the product directly. (if you use payvex, you can create a "download code" to allow them to download it directly)

I've only had one customer get upset with me once because he paid with an e-check and wasn't able to download the product right away. (he thought I took his $$ and ran) Source(s): I'm a consultant/programmer with http://www.geniegate.com/ and support software for this type of application.
