Am I being ripped off by my employer? |
I have a 4 year degree in Marketing. I am working in McLean, VA (the busiest city in Northern VA, as well as worst traffic) as a Marketing assistant and getting paid 35K a year. Been a year since I got hired, all my friends work around this area (even marketing assistant) are getting paid at least 40-45K. Am I being ripped off by my employer? Why don't you go be your own boss. You have all the knowledge and expertise that you need. Set up a website and market it outside your state with small quanity direct mail. Also contact companies personally, that you have researched and feel you can improve their marketing ...or even design an ad campaign then present it to them. So no, you aren't being ripped off. If you feel you should be making more, you can always look for a different job that pays more. Or you can ask them for a raise, citing that other similar jobs pay more, but they don't have to give it to you. If you have a degree in marketing than you know that it is in the company's best interest to get employees for as cheap as possible, and sell their service for the most.You agreed to work for what you are being paid. Ask for a raise, and cite your work for them in comparison to other positions at other firms. If you don't get it, look for something else. There is nothing wrong with what either of you do about it.
