Are sales of vehicle security products recession proof? |
....How would you classify a vehicle security product: say a steering lock or other security accessory? Do you think sales would be adversely affected by a recession? There is no one thing that is recession proof. When a recession happens, people spend less, period. Sales would definitely be adversely affected but you might see a rise in sales in some other time/place that you don't expect that would compensate for it. You could also offset lower sales by offering different types of products and different price-points. Recessions affect everyone (even the really rich) so there's no point trying to find the "one product that will still sell" because if it's out there, it's probably toilet paper and I still wouldn't bet all my money on that. nothing is recession proof, people spend less, means everything and anything maybe bread..... Yes. Definitely. Although practical ( nothing will stop the professional thief) and good for discounts on insurance policies, during a recession these items will be considered a luxury item or item of choice not a necessity of life. Modern Vehicles are increasingly better equipped with security devices. I have a tracker system anti tow away and high quality Immobiliser and alarm on mine as standard factory fit. However thieves generally target older less secure vehicles. That is not a recession proof market as older cars are replaced every day. There may be some retained market in supplying devices for cheaper basic models but I would not rely on that as a basis for starting a business |
