What do i do with a fraudulent certified check??? |
Selling some furniture on craigslist...I feel check is fraudulent because the bearer is at least 700miles away from me and wants the furniture sight unseen. He also wants me to remove ad immediately. Holding check for now, not depositing in bank until I can be sure it isn't bad. Ask the local bank; also check with the bank that drafted and the local police. Good catch on your part; there are a lot of counterfit "certified" checks going on now for people who don't understand that "ANYTHING" can be a fake. Call the issuing bank and verify account, account holder and funds available. Just because he lives 700 miles away doesn't make him fraudulent. he may have wanted the ad removed so you don't sell it back out from under him for a higher bidder. If the check is certified, then how can it be fraudulent? You sound over paranoid to me. All you have to do is call the bank that is was sent from to make sure that it is a valid certified check, and if so, for how much. The guy could just want the furniture really bad. Next time you don't want to sell something, don't list it to be sold. go to police station |
