Can you prevent a company from accessing your checking account after you quit?

My wife works for a company that does direct deposit to our checking account for payroll. Once, they did make the mistake of debiting the account rathering than posting her paycheck. She is leaving them this week and we want to know how we can cancel ANY past written authorizations for them accessing our checking account in any way. in other words, we dont' want them depositing or debiting our account for any reason. If they owes her money then they can give her a paper check but our concern is that they might "accidently" debit our account. Yes, they are that kind of company which is one reason she is leaving.

You can call the bank. You'll need to send or take in a letter or their form rescinding the permission for the company to access the account. Do it sooner rather than later. It might take a few days to make it through all the right channels.
If they already have access to her account info there is no way to stop this other than closing the account out. There is no way to actually stop it from hitting your account, but there are things you can do if it does hit. If anything suspicious hits your account, talk to your bank. Have them close out the account and then you would be able to file a police report if the money is not returned.
You can request certain activities from certain companies to be blocked, but you will still face the human factor ~ if someone messes up doing their job it's going to have repercussions on you.

Better you should close out the account and start a new one. Preferably at a new bank. If you close the account and open another at the same bank and something happens where you inadvertantly owe money to the bank, regardless of whose fault it is, your new account can still be debited for that amount.

The bank will get what they are owed regardless of which account the potential error occurs.
