Reclaiming your bank charges? |
I have just phoned my bank to ask for the charges given to me (for going over my overdraft) over the past 6 years in order for me to claim them back. My bank hasnt sent me the details I asked for but sent a letter saying they disagree with my view and also that when I opened my account the terms and conditions are clearly explained and updates as and when needed. However they said that on this occasion wihtout accepting liability, will offer 拢325 and the matter will be closed. Or I could go to the financial ombudsman service and take the matter further. I have 8 weeks to decide, please help. Shall I take the money and run or go though with the financel ombudsman services? I may get more money but I dont want to lose out on the 拢325 and end up with nothing. Thanks In order to make a good decision you need to know what you may receive if your recovered everything. If you think they owe you 拢500 and they are offering 拢325 right now I would take it and consider yourself fortunate. If on the other hand you think they owe you 拢4000 then you should definitely go to the Ombudsman. You have eight weeks to decide so I would go to the Ombudsman now and see what you can find out about the likelihood of collecting more than 拢325. Hopefully they can give you some idea before you lose your offer from the bank. Good Luck! Source(s): Senior Financial Controller |
