How do I send packages via USPS?

I know this question must be stupid for some of you, but I really need help. Say I want to sell something on eBay, then I have to send it.
Could you provide me the process?

Depending on the size & weight of what you are shipping, USPS has several sizes of FLAT RATE Priority Mail boxes.

They are an absolute bargain for heavier items, several pounds or more. Flat Rate to anywhere in USA.

You must use their boxes. I have seen people buy a box and then pay $20+ to ship something that would fit in a flat rate box for less than $10, and the boxes are free, at any post office.
take the package to the post office, in the closest sized box u can, plain box, no markings..... address it, return address it, and take it to the post office, they'll weigh it, give u several shipping options, and the rate, and then they'll take it from u, and send it to the recipient. u can add other options, like requiring a signature for delivery, or getting a tracking number so u can pinpoint the package along the way, all for additional fees.
You have several choices:

1. Take it to the post office and mail it there. Use whatever you can find to package it in. The only restrictions that the post office has is that barcodes on the box must be marked thru, and they can not be liquor boxes. If you ship it via priority mail, the post office has free boxes for you to use. You can pick those up at the post office or order them online at www.usps.com.

2. If you receive payment on the item via paypal, then you can use Paypal to print your shipping label and pay the postage online from your paypal account. If you do that, then you can just drop it at the post office and not have to stand in line. Or, if you are shipping it priority, you can request a pickup from the post office. They typically will pick it up the next day and pickup is free. Flat rate priority boxes are a huge savings for small, yet heavy, items. I have received flat rate priority boxes with machine parts in them that weighed 30+ pounds.

3. I have learned that if a package is over about 4 pounds, UPS or Fedex is cheaper (unless it will fit in a priority flat rate). Keep in mind, though, that the UPS rate includes insurance, whereas the USPS rate does not unless you pay extra for it. Also, Fedex says their rates include insurance, but the do not. And, they will tell you an item is insured, but it is not insured if you send it Fedex Ground.

4. Do not ship Fedex or UPS to other countries. They charge the recipient a brokerage fee and the recipient can't get it until it is paid. Fedex and UPS also do not (or didn't) offer ground service to Alaska, so it is very expensive to ship there via Fedex or UPS. They also do not have ground service to Hawaii (duh, think about it).

5. APO/FPO, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands addresses are considered in the US. You can use priority mail to ship to them. You will need a customs form. Priority to APO/FPO is only guaranteed to the port (usually NY or CA). After that, there is no guarantee on delivery time as the military is handling the delivery from that point forward.

More than you wanted to know, huh?
