2) Trade shows. Give away demo versions. Advertise in trade journals.
3) If your software is a complementary piece, "piggy-back" onto another similar tool that is already well known and used in the industry.
4) Have a website. Let people request free demos.

If people find your software useful, and it fills a need, they'll buy the full version.
