Can I collect unemployment if...? |
It's a long story, but here goes. Company is broke, and has been broke for awhile. Company owes outstanding paychecks to a number of employees for a number of months. Most employees are willing to "stick it out" in hopes of receiving funding soon. To date, I have received all my paychecks, but the last one bounced. They are struggling to cover that paycheck, but promise it by the end of day today. This still leaves the paycheck coming up next week for hours I have already worked. Company really needs me and promises that I will get paid. I don't believe them. So now what? I have no desire to remain with the company any longer. I don't trust their ability to pay me. If I leave, is it quitting, therefore leaving me unable to collect unemployment? I would report them to the state labor board. It illegal for them not to pay you! Call your local unemployment office to discuss this issue. ASP |
