Job Hunting? |
I'm a 20 year old female!!! Why is it that I apply to so many jobs and none call me back!?!?! I give them my resume and their interviews, but NOTHING?!?!?!?! What kind of companies are you applying for? If it is a larger company, the recruiting process can take 3-6 months to complete. If you applied to a mid-sized company with about 200-300 employees, then the recruiting process should only take 4-6 weeks. Since you are 20 years old and if you are still in college, this is the order you should make your resume: 1. Top- Name, Address, Phone number, E-mail address 2. Education- list your relevant coursework 3. Work Experience (only list the relevant work experience, if you do not have any, list what you have done in the past, including all volunteer and part-time work) 4. School activities (if you have any) 5. Computer Skills/Programs Do not put an objective since you should have a cover letter. In your cover letter, keep it short and simple. 1. tell them how you found their job posting and what you want to apply for 2. Tell them what you have done and how it has prepared you for your next role 3. "Thank you in advance and I hope to hear from you soon." If you need help with your resume or cover letter you can email it to me. I currently work in Human Resources and I recruit student interns, so I can help you if you want. Good luck! Source(s): HR Experience Maybe your resume is too long. Make it short and simple. List your name, address, contact info at the top. List your education. Then list only relevant employment experience for the past 5 years. Don't put unnecessary stuff on your resume. Like. . . personal affiliations or hobbies/ interests. Put yourself in the shoes of the employer that you are applying for. They don't have all day long to review one resume. Good luck! I think you need to step back and re-evaluate yourself and the jobs you're applying for. Are you and the job *really* a good fit, or are you trying to stretch your experience and ability to fit the job? Do you meet the minimum qualifications for the job? Do you have the work experience necessary? Do you have great references? Also look at yourself... is your resume perfect - completely free of errors? Is it substantial or padded? Does it address the requirements for the jobs you're applying for? How about the interviews... are you prepared? Do you go in knowing something about the company and the position to be filled? Do you have great answers for the mundane questions? Are you dressed professionally? Do you act professional? Do you speak clearly and confidently; do you look everyone in the eye and offer a firm handshake? If you're doing everything right, then take a deep breath and recognize that job hunting is hard... really hard. Sometimes you have to apply to more than 100 jobs before you get hired. Don't take it personal, as a reflection of your worth (I know it's hard not to), but think of it as you weren't a good match for the job. You may believe you're a great match, but if you're not what the employer is looking for, then you're not a good match. Hang in there and keep looking. Perseverance pays off. Good luck!
