In an interview, what kinds of things does the interviewer want to hear you "know about their company"?

I know it's a common question to hear - "what do you know about our company" - but what kinds of things, and how much, do they want you to go on about? I don't want to overkill the question, but I want to say enough. Thanks!

I'd be as familiar as possible with all products and services. Also, if you can find their mission statement, that would be great to know. That way you can show that you have researched the company, you believe what they believe and you are interested in a productive future for both you and the company.

I'd leave out anything negative that you know about the company unless directly asked.

If the company is in a safety sensitive industry, know their current safety numbers. That will matter a lot.
Like know if they had a good ranking from forbes, if they recently merged with someone, or acquired someone, know that their sales are #1 in the area, that their stock price went up and of course..WHAT DOES THE COMPANY DO? are they shoe retailers, paper manufacturers, etc.?
