Are correspondence schools like Penn Foster (Education Direct) legitimate schools? |
They say they are accredited, and that's not what I'm asking. I want to know if a degree from these types of schools carries as much weight as from a regular, four year college in the eyes of a potential employer. I am attending penn foster for the assoc. degree in veterinary technology. Before I enrolled in the school, I went around my city and asked if they would hire me after I recieved my degree. They told me yes. Penn Foster is legit, accredited and in good standing with the BBB. All the employers I have had interviews with have heard of Penn Foster and are very impressed with the college. The degrees are legit and many people that graduated there have received a job with there degree. Source(s): Attending Penn Foster Every school has a different "weight". A school like Harvard is going to look really good, and every state has at least one decent affordable school local employers are quite familiar with. If you know a few potential employers you'd like to work for, you could ask them which schools have more weight and less weight. If I were you, I'd look for schools that brag about placement rates for graduates. Most employers laugh at them. I know I do. |
