How do you know if you need a career change? |
How do you know if you need a career change? If you are bored at work or hate going it could be one of several things: 1. You work for a bunch of losers and it's the environment not the work. If this is the case, don't change careers, just go do what you enjoy doing in a more healthy environment. 2. You are not being challenged enough in your work and have grown restless and bored. In this case, seek out your boss and ask for more or more challenging work to do. He or she may be impressed, and you will be fulfilled without having to job-hunt. 3. You are in the wrong field for this time of your life and you need to do something else. Of course, there are other possibilities, too, but if it's number three, do the following: 1. Take a career inventory test to determine careers that may be compatible with your interests/skills. 2. Talk to people in some of those fields to determine what you need to qualify for a job in that field, how much you can hope to make, etc. 3. Determine whether you will need to go back to school for special training. If you are going to go to school, do not leave your current job until you are certain that you will enjoy the new career and that it will be able to sustain you financially. 4. If you work for a large company, see if you may be able to transfer to another division without losing your tenure, benefits, etc. Many companies are willing to do this for good employees. 5. Start looking for a job in the new field. Good luck. I hope that you end up doing something that you really love. I would say ask your self these questions. 1.is there room for advancement? 2.is this a long term position i can excell and grow in? 3.can i advance without changing careers? 4.do you want to learn a new trade or return to education? remember you may have to juggle college and work to acheive this. and most of important 5. do i love my job? |
