How honest should you be with someone taking the job you are leaving?

I'm leaving my current position and advancing within the company. How honest should I be with the new person taking my place? Should I tell her what I enjoyed and what I didn't enjoy? What about office politics? Should I fill her in on those or let her figure it out on her own as I did?

It's usually best to let the person figure out the politics on his/her won. The exception is if there is someone who is really great or really not, in which case it's appropriate to put in a word - "See Millie if you have any problems running the reports - she was always really helpful to me", or, "Be careful to get the weekly info to Pam on time - she can be pretty strict about that."

If there are any huge "black holes", it's appropraite to let the newbie know about them in a diplomatic way - not, "Our IS system is so terrible. I doubt you'll ever be able to figure it out." More like, "Our IS system can be pretty challenging. I've written down the entry routine so you can follow it, and Millie will help you out if you get stuck."

Congrats on the new job, and good luck!
Well, it's always good to give the new person a heads-up. ^^
Open and honest. It will make you and your company better.
Dont tell her much. Keep it positive whatever you do. Let her make her own judgements.
MISTY, BE AS HONEST AS YOU CAN, YOU WOULD LIKE IT THE SAME WAY !!! THINK ABOUT IT.
If your job is to teach them the ropes, leave it at that.
Who knows? YOU may be the reason for the problems there. Regardless, its not your place
depends what kind of person they are do they deserve a heads up or not?
