I want to become a veterinarian, but........? |
i love everything that being a veterinarian has to offer, but there is is only one problem wiht this ocupation. it is a aginst my religon to kill or euthanize anything. i want to be a veterinarian very badly because i love animals and want to do anything i can do for them. i wish to specialize in horses and dogs. is posible for me to become a vet and not have to do euthanasia? You could look into being a Registered/Certified/Licensed Veterinary Technician. It's a lot like being a Registered Nurse in human medicine, only you work with animals instead. You still get to help the animals and can do many things that a vet does. It's usually the vet who administers the euthanasia solution, so that would not be one of your responsibilities. Probably not...unfortunately or animal friends don't usually outlive us, and at some point, most vets have to put down an animal because the animal is suffering. Horses in particular can die cruel, prolonged deaths due to disease, broken limbs, etc. Euthanasia is sometimes the kindest choice. I understand that this may not be a choice you want to make. You could also consider a career as a breeder, zoologist/researcher (study animal diseases, for example), become a veterinary surgeon, etc., as opposed to simply opening a general practice. Good luck. unfourtunatly euthanasia is part of the job. If you want to be a practicing veterinarian you will have to euthanize animals. I agree with the other recommendation. Check into becoming a veterinary technician. It is like a nurse for animals. |
