How long does it take human resources to conduct a back round investigation????

???What kind of info or questions are they asking my previous employers????it's been 2-3 days and I wondering whats taking so long........

Takes about a week usually. Depends on what the employer wants to verify - it's sort of like a restaurant menu. They can verify the following areas:

-criminal record
-DMV history
-credit history
-education/degree verification
-professional and/or personal references

What they verify depends on the company and the job for which you apply - for example, if you apply for something that requires a security clearance, they will check all of the above and more - military history, etc.

Things they ask:

-how long you were employed
-your job title
-your pay (sometimes)
-whether or not you are eligible for rehire
-sometimes they will ask about your work habits, ethics, attendance, that type of thing, but most companies now will only verify employment rather than discuss your work performance.

Hope this helps - good luck!
The criminal background part can take several days.
Depends on what kind they're doing. If it's over the computer, ours takes a few minutes. If it's over the phone, like for a reference check, it depends on when that person from whatever company gets to talk to the HR Dept with the company you are applying with. They want to know if you've ever been arrested, ever failed a drug screen, was fired from a job and why, things like that.
It is a BACKGROUND check. It can take from days to weeks, depending on the job. Some companies require FBI background checks, which takes longer.

They are looking for a criminal background, fraud, lies on your application or resume, etc.
HAR! human resours people take their sweet time. give it 2 weeks easy.
poob
it shouldn't take no longer than 2 weeks for most background checks...
