Did I get the job?? |
Ok, I had an interview and it went really well. I got a tour of the place, met the Director of Operations and was there for 2 hours. I got a phone call the very next morning from the HR manager, which was the person I spent most of interview. He said that I did an "outstanding job". This was pretty much what he said to me -> "I want you to know that you are a very stong candidate for this position. Both the Director of Operations and I thought you were outstanding and would be a great fit for our organization. There is one other candidate with a slight edge over you, ONLY because of her background. You do not lack anything that we are looking for. I want you to really be proud of yourself for the interview and keep in mind that you are definately a strong candidate with this position. We'll see where this goes." What does this mean?! Do I have a chance at this position??? Feedback please?? Sounds like it! I would say that you did an excellent job but they are considering one other candidate who has slightly more experience than you. Oops. Wait a minute, they already told you that. Make sure you mailed "Thank You" cards as soon as possible and that you sold yourself (very briefly) in the Thank You pointing out how great a fit you and the position are for each other and how much you look forward to working with all the great people you met! Usually if they don't call you back within three days or a week after the interview, the job is hopeless. Anyway, I wish you good luck. Wow. Good 'job'. haha. Well, if you stayed at the interview for 2 hours, I believe you will get it. They can't hold you up for that long as interviews would usually go for 15 minutes abouts. They way how the HR talked to you on the phone sounds like a positive' you got the job'. Good luck on the position. I believe in you It sounds like you have a very good chance at the position. They may still choose you over the other candidate...but also, if the other candidate declines an offer (if one is extended to her) for some reason or if the background check or whatever doesn't go well for her, then you'll be in! Look into the company a little. Do they have another job that may be similar? I had a really good interview a while back but there were a couple of candidates that spoke Spanish which was a preferred qualification, so I didn't get that job. But the Department Manager said he was impressed by me and my resume, so he was really encouraging about watching for any and all openings there. (In my case, its the state Department of Health, so there are LOTS of openings!) He told me he would be watching for my application to come across his desk again. And actually I think I am getting in already. I had another interview and although it was a different division, she all but told me I was a shoo-in. So even if you don't get this one because of the other candidate, keep looking at this company because they obviously really like you! |
