Can you help me choose a career path? |
Alright, so I am about to transfer to a university with in the next year after I finish up my general ed at the local community college. I am looking for a university that will suit my career/major choice well. The problem is I don't know what my career path is or what I should major in. I, like so many young college students do not know what I would like to pursue. I would really appreciate it if any of you could give me a few suggestions that could point me in the right direction. I would like to have a profession where I get to travel to different parts of the world, work outdoors and something that requires me to be very hands on. And I also love studying about past civilizations and human life. I looked into the field of Archaeology, but soon realized that most Archaeological work nowadays is lab work. I am not very keen about data work and scientific research. I am just an extremely confused girl looking for some sort of clarity I just want to get it right the first time around Wow... this is a big question to throw out to the world. Considering your love for hands on, outdoor work and your interest in history/humanity, have you considered Sociology as a major? Also, within majors like Archeology, Sociology, and even Biology there are plenty of opportunities for field work. It just depends on where you look for a job when you are done. For example, my uncle is a marine geologist, and he spent a bunch of years diving for the US Marine Geological Survey. His basic job was to go scuba diving and report on the health of the reef systems in the Southeast United States. What about a career in international services like the Red Cross or UN? You would get the travel and study of humanity while doing the world a huge service. I sometimes think it helps to imagine the perfect job or the perfect action you would engage in as a professional and work backwards from that. Using that method might also lead you to people or employers who match your vision and may be able to steer you in the right direction. Just specialize in field work. Good luck! Its important to love what you do. my advise is very simple and useful. firstly, go for internship before start working, it is very useful and will let you know what you want. |
