What can interviewers find out from your past employer?

if they call them? I know that by law they cant say certain things. The reason I am asking is because there is one job that I was at for a long time (so I had to put it on my Resume) but I ended up walking out on them. I know, HIGHLY unprofessional and irrisponsible!

I am afraid they will find it out if they call my past employers!

They ask ,"would you hire this person again"?, whow long were you employed there and something else. They only ask about three questions, but different employers ask different questions.
Employers can only release your dates of employment for past employees. There are so many legal issues with verifying employment this is all employers will verify.
I don't know if they will find out that you walked out. I don't think the employer can give that much detail. I agree with dcbossygirl. They will ask, "Would you hire this person again". If you walked out and probably things leading up to it would cause the employer to say no, they wouldn't hire you again.
In the interview with the new company you can clarify that in your old position you found out you and the comp were not a good match or you were burned out or that the environment wasn't the right one for you.
If they ask you to elaborate more, be as general as possible, don't start bad mouthing the old company or complain about anything there. Insist on your first statement that it wasn't the right match (or whatever you said first).Do not become defensive or angry, (some comps want to know how you respond to tough questions)
By law the old company cannot give too much info out bacause it can ruin someone's carrer and they can be sued bacause of that
Good luck
The laws are so strict now that usually all an employer can say it that you did work there, how long, your position. They don't like to pass on negative information as they are likely to be sued.
I hope you realize that no matter what the circumstances don't burn your bridges behind you. Stay on good terms with everyone so you don't worry and if worse comes to worse you could work there again. And people there will have nice things to say about you.
If you actually worked their. Time you worked their. What your job category was.
