What does pro rata mean? |
I am applying for a part time job, in the advert it states: 15 hours per week. Salary range pro rata at 拢13,725-拢15,844 pa (W.T.E 37.5) What exactly does this mean and how much salary could I expect to recieve? I would be grateful for your advice. Many thanks x It means that the salary quoted is the salary for working a full 37.5 hour week. Therefore, you must rate this down to equate to the 15 hours you would work. If you were offered the higher rate of 15,844 per annum, your actual salary for 15 hours per week would be in the region of 6,300. This isn't exact, as I've done it in my head - you may want to get a calculator to check it exactly! it means that the wage is based on 37.5 hours at the rate given. to work out how much you would get for the 15 hours you need to divide the yearly rate by 52 then by 37.5 then multiply tha answer by 15. At 13,725 you would get 拢105.58 a week. at 拢15,844 you would get 拢121.88 a week Hope this helps The salary quoted will be for a person working full-time in that job. Pro rata is the latin for 'proportionally' or a 'proportion of'. The stated 拢10,000-拢12,000 is the full-time salary and you would be paid the proportion that's equal to the 16 hours of work. How much this part-time equivalent is will depend on how many hours the company considers full time. For example, if a full-time post is considered to be 37 hours a week the wage for a part-time worker working 16 hours per week for 拢10,000 per year will be: 16/37 x 10000 = 4324 THIS IS A SAMPLE OF SOMEONE PRO RATA BASED ON THE WAGE ABOVE. around 拢100 per week before tax The calculation would be 13 725 /37,5 X 15 for the lower end of the scale, and 15 844 /37,5 X 15 for the upper end of the scale. That would be the yearly expectation for working 15 hours a week on the specified salary range which is calculated for a 37,5 hour working week. As the post you are applying for is 15 hours a week, you would get paid just under 拢6,000 a year to begin with, but as time goes by and you will get under 拢8000 a year. The salary they have quoted is for someone who is working full time (37 and a half hours), but 15 hours is just under half of that you will get paid roughly half. |
