A lot of online job applications demand detailed employment history, with addresses and phone numbers of previous companies. But half of the companies I worked for (small pharmaceutical companies) no longer exist. What should I write so these potential employers don't think I'm just making up my experience? Similarly, what do I do if my old bosses at companies that do still exist no longer work at these companies? These hangups are making my job search rather difficult.
I have the same problem, and I just try to find somewhere in the application to notate that the company is no longer in business.
If you do have the old address and phone number, list it; if anyone actually calls to check your history, it wouldn't be until AFTER they interview you anyway, and by then you will have had a chance to explain this. Believe me, this is not an uncommon issue, and employers are well aware of it. Besides, how likely is it that you would have false information about a company that no longer exists to put on your resume in the first place?? |
