I misspelled one word on a thank you letter? |
Okay, I did the kiss of death I think and now I'm going to kick myself. I had a 2nd interview with a company (same company I work for) and I met with three people. I emailed my thank you letters today and on one of those letters I misspelled the word position. I forgot the first "I" in it, I think when you just read it fast, you don't notice it as I did proofread it several times. The other two letters were perfect, but can I totally assume that I'm out of the running now since I made that fatal error and forgot to use spell check on that one word. These aren't the people that have the final say, but their opinions are valued. It depends on the person reading it. If they are a "gold" personality type, who is very attentive to detail and organized, it will drive them nuts and they will notice. If they are more emotional, the thought will stick out more than the actual words. I know that feeling, just hope that your personality and the fact that you considered them after the interview was enough to sell them. I wish I had words of advice, but this is one you will have to just wait and see. I made the same mistake on a resume, ( a mis-spelled word.) The interview went extremely well. I did not hear from them again and I, personally, attribute it to my error. However, I do wish you good luck!! A great lesson to be learned for the future. Very important to reread, yet I would not let that destroy your confidence in yourself, nor would I use that (1) error to drop you in the running for the job. An equal opp/emp. if interested will give you a chance. Hired and fired many people over the years. such errors could lead to a positive or negative result. I also made an error, but this was on my resume. I forgot to add a comma in my objective statement and therefore it didn't make much sense. However, I still got the job regardless of the error. You may be in luck :) I think you have the answer to this question. Would you hire someone who would send you a thank you letter after an interview only to know that they're made a spelling mistake which is completely normal. We're humans and we do make small mistakes. |
