Didn't go to work yesterday and didn't call in. What should I say on Monday? |
Didn't go to work yesterday and didn't call in. What should I say on Monday? You left town because of a personal emergancy that you would rather not have to explain. Be very firm on it being none of there buisiness without being rude. Make it sound as though you fully expect that you may be fired but the situation was just more important. Be warned, you can only get away with doing that once before your boss fires you. Do I still work here? That you died and just came back? In most cases they would tell you to go home , your fired. The truth might help, but if you were out shopping or to the beach, I wouldn't count on it. If you make up a excuse, you need to make sure it's air-tight. Otherwise, the lie can come back to get you fired. Sounds like perhaps you're not enjoying your job anymore. Maybe you should start thinking about finding a different one. I would definitely mention how inappropriate and inconsiderate your actions were, though. It will make it better if you seem like you're now taking responsiblity for your actions. Definitely don't arrive late on Monday, either! Maybe even bring in a small token of your apology, such as a basket of coffees, teas, etc. Good luck! depends if your boss has a sense of humor, but give the ol,I was abducted by aliens bit a try,at the least it will give everyone a good laugh while your receiving your pink slip Frankly, I would be honest with them and tell them why you didn't call or come in. I would go in early before every else does (if you work "regular" shift of 8:00 - 5:00) and talk to your boss. Tell them what the situation was that kept you from coming into work. If you really aren't sure why you didn't go in, tell them the truth about that too. Please don't assume that your boss is stupid and will believe anything you say. Most bosses have seen it all and heard it all. They may be more understanding if you tell them that you had an emotional meltdown and that you just didn't feel like coming in. In most companies, if you have been a hard worker and are a valued employee, they may forgive this indiscretion with a warning. However, that will be dependent on how you present yourself, the attitude of your boss, and the policies of the company. Most companies have policies in place that will "forgive" one indiscretion such as this. But above all, TELL THE TRUTH. They will respect you better for it and you will respect yourself. Good Luck. I'm with Lisa on this one. You will be very lucky to still have your job. Many companies - Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc have a huge pool of potential workers and can afford to dump people with poor work ethics. Some companies require that the worker whom you are replacing must stay at least a few hours beyond their own work schedule to cover your spot. Being late or not even showing up ticks people off if it screws up their personal schedule or makes extra work for your supervisor. Be on time, stay until you are suppose to, and have the common courtesy to call as soon as you know that you can't make it in. One of my young relatives said that he didn't need to call in; that they'd figure it out when he didn't show up. EHHHH! Wrong answer! Fired! His cousin called in four or five times. Ehhhh! Wrong answer! Fired! Everybody is replaceable. I suggest that you pick up a paper and read the classifieds over the weekend. By Monday, no one will care what your excuse was. The only thing to do is offer is a sincere apology and, if you want to keep a job, to change your behavior. I hope you take your Answerers' responses to heart. |
