Let's say you're driving an 18-wheeler, and you get a load going out of state about 500 miles, and the return trip is the same. Do you pay for all the gas yourself, and how much would it cost? When they say you get paid 35 cents per mile, does the gas come out of that, or do they pay the gas also?
The OTR company drivers (are what you are refering to at .35) do not pay for the fuel. That is paid for by the company.
Owner operators are paid alot more but also pay for their fuel. I work for a huge huge truckign company. We have owner operators and company drivers. The owner ops buy their own fuel. When they are paid 35 cents per mile that is NOT including fuel. My drivers pick up out of Inland steel and at the moment their fuel surcharge is 15%. That changes all the time and your company would let you know up front. Our company drivers do not pay for fuel. We buy the fuel for them.
