First Job is a commission job?

I got offered a job, my first one out of college, and it is based on commission. It is selling baseball ticket packages, pizza stuff, and other entertainment packages. They said for the first few weeks before I move up I will make 500-700 a week. I am not sure what to do and I have to decide by Sunday. Any help would be nice. (this job lets me move up to actually get out of the selling field so eventually I will be in the office which is what I want)

Do research and be sure it's a legitimate opportunity, because a lot of so-called sales jobs these days are MLMs [multi-level marketing, a semi-legalized pyramid scheme]. You mentioned moving up, etc.

Does this require recruiting other people into the company? Do those above you in rank or job title, or the ones who recruited you into the company, get a commission based on your sales? Do you get a commission based on the sales of your "recruits" or "downline". If so, run.

There can be a lot of money in sales, and some of the companies are fantastic, but so many of the sales companies out there now are either straight up scams or very hard to make a living in, and commission-based jobs are tough to live on and learn to budget for, no matter what your age and experience. Source(s): I got burned by a few commission sales jobs/scams before finding a real job in a commission-based industry.
Is it telemarketing? That is what it sounds like. If so, I would highly recommend running.

If not, look to see if the company is reputable. Commission jobs are great on one hand because your hard work is how you get paid. If you are good you make good money but when you are great....

On the other hand, have an off month and you are in the hole.

Beware of taking draws to cover a low salary week/month. You are basically borrowing money from the company and can end up in a hole very quickly.
