How to switch careers in your 40's?

Okay, it may be a mid life crisis but I really need a career change. The problem is my income level. I just spent hours going through salary.com's list of careers and very few of them peeked my interest and the one's that did didn't pay enough. I need an income replacement of 50k and am not against attending an online college for a degree that will land me that kind of career. I'm not sure what I'd like to get into but I do know it has to be something mechanical in nature. I can't be a pencil pusher. Any suggestions on where to start this journey?

most online colleges are scams.

go back to school.

my mom was doing PR for Johnson and Johnson, she went back to school about 10 years ago (when she was 40) and she is now an elementary school teacher.

It is less money, but shes doing something she actually loves.
