If you have a job interview, and ask your current employer for time off to attend? |
is your employer obliged under UK law to allow you the time off to attend? My fiance is currently in this position at a busy time for her current employer where, given her position in the company, she would not normally be allowed to use her holiday entitlement. If there are any solicitors/ lawyers on here with knowledge of UK employment law, it'd be very useful to have your opinions. You probably don't want the current employer to know, just in case things get nasty. Most people have a Dental appointment / Doctors / Eye test instead..... this is the one time in your life that honestly is not always the best policy -- if you can not take a day of vacation i would make up some likely excuse -- if nothing else take the time without pay. If you do that, most likely you will find your self unemployed Don't tell them just pull a sicky that's what my wife does shes always changing jobs If your finances employer is not aware she's looking for another job, it would probably be better if she phoned in sick or similar. Is she doesn't get the job she's applying for, it could create a lot of ill feeling at her work, and cause her problems. Its sneaky, but its probably best! It is totally unacceptable and disrespectful to ask your current employer for time off to attend an interview for alternative employment. There is no law to say that a company is obliged to allow you time off to attend. They have every right to refuse you and may be a little hostile to you after your request. Only if you want to lose your CURRENT job. |
