My company was sold and now I have lost my job, I am worried I won't find a new one...what do I do? |
I am a receptionist at a childcare center and it was recently sold, I thought I would continue on with the new company but then I was let go...I was very sad because I loved it...Now I seem to be lost and worrying about what to do next. My major is in Hospitality Management but it seems very hard to get into a hotel to start out. What do I do? Go to your state's employment office, and file for unemployment benefits, then study the job listings. If you need help, that is what the people who work there can do for you. As you are in the hospitality industry, check with the union office, and join if necessary, as that is where they do the hiring. Read the newspaper ads and get out and ask to put in an application with every hotel etc., in your area. If they are not hiring, they will know who is and can refer you. Sitting at home and not doing anything won't get results, so start by making a list of to do's, and get going. There are lots of on call and part time jobs to get your foot in the door. I know, been there done that. Best wishes you can post your resume online for one option. Another option for part time very easy money is to find an internet business that you can apply for. I found a job working out of my own apartment while i'm playing with my 2 year old son. It's so simple, and it sounds like you have computer skills so it looks like you can be on your way. Good luck! Do what you have to do. Get two minimum wage jobs if you have to for the time being. Then you can still look for your dream job. I'm sure there's plenty of places that need a receptionist. Look in the newspaper for a job. Life doesn't stop because you lose your job...keep truckin'. hand your resume in to one of those temporary agencies like Adecco, Accountemps, etc. i know a couple of people that had a temporary position with companies and then the companies they were temporarily assigned to later made them an offer for full time employment. this way you can try the potential employer out and if you don't like it there you can ask the temp agency to find you a position elsewhere. good luck! What was it about the job that you have lost that you found most rewarding? Think about what you really want in your next job. Think about your answer to the above question. Imagine what your ideal job would be. Write it down. Write your resume to reflect your favoured area of activity and your experience that reflects your enthusiasm for this work. Start searching for the job that reflects your interests and experience. Tell everyone who will listen how keen you are to find your 'named' ideal job. Good luck. |
