Pharmacy Tech? |
What is usually the starting range for a Pharmacy Tech at CVS Pharmacy? Do you recommend being a Tech for a college student? Thanks for your input. i started as a pharmacy tech in 1994 with Eckerds (now CVS) and my pay was around $7.25. The following year I changed over to a pharmacy in a grocery chain and started at $8.50 and finally quit that job 11 years later at a pay rate of $14.50/hr. My guess for new tech with no experience at most places would probably start out at $9/hr. Make sure wherever you get hired they understand that you are in college and what your availability is limited. Most pharmacies schedule employees for the better of the business and if you have varied availability to work (need different hours each week for example) that is hard for the manager or lead tech to make up a schedule. Like the previous person answered you, being a tech is great for a college student, but i disagree with them in saying its not career and you can't further yourself. A tech at an independant pharmacy can gain more responsibilites within the pharmacy , for example, write out the tech schedules, handle insurance paperwork and invoices, be in charge of inventory and ordering and at some compounding of medications. Usually with any added duties usually comes with a pay raise. Pharmacists will always need techs and they depend on us immensely. Being a pharmacy tech IS my career. One i fell into accidently but have never left! I love my job. I prefer working at an independent pharmacy rather than retail but retail is important and a fast learning tool for customer service. i have no hospital pharmacy experience but i know some techs who do work at the hospitals and some just do normal tech duties while other prepare IVs or just cart drugs to the floors. i have heard their pay is slightly higher than retail, maybe even up to $17/hr , but i don't know if that is starting but i would bet some tech experience would be needed. hope i helped! :)Letty Source(s): ME! Tech jobs like this one is a learn on the job thing and is not the best pay but its a nice job to have if you want to go futher in medical fields at all. They pay about 9-11 to start depending on where you go and some start higher then that. I would get into a hospital job first if you can cause Pharm Tech jobs are hard to get in some areas. So for a college student yeah I would go for it but if your done with college then no the job wont get you anywhere at all there is no higher you can get without college in that field.
