In a verge of a career shift, what do you do? |
I am working many years in a government agency with a trusthworthy task, good friends and very supportive superiors. also the clients of that agency rely on me as I know and heard. challenge is good and output is always done. BUT IT HAS BEEN THAT WAY FOR MANY YEARS. and hardly got a promotion for all those years. Even myr superiors are unable to resolve the matter for they know IT IS THE SYSTEM THAT IS FLAWED. and basically no longer satisfied and stressed out. the pay for the workload is not compensating. I know it will be like this for the rest of your life. now I got an offer double the pay, with a well renowned US company, for sure this will be a new world, more hard work, shiftings are constant and I will undergoe training. this is really out of my comfort zone. but i want to have new experiences. the only set back, for sure i will start from scratch , and PROJECT BASED. no job security. i'm not older than 30 & single. need your opinion. Hi! I'm 44 years young and can understand what you are saying. I'd been doing the same thing for several years, topped out where I was and reallllly needing a change. I finally made the change!! I'm very happy with it, and it was still a steady job with a bit better pay, but much less insurance benefit and that's cost me alot more money than my pay increase. Still, I feel more challenged and excited every day and it's FRESH!! I've met new people, have added to my skill set and now have new responsibilites and a new position/experience to add to my resume'. I used what I knew and the experience I had to get into a new company doing many of the same but with a few new responsibilites. I don't regret the change. I've grown in several ways in the last year. We can't always have the best of circumstances or move laterally (or better) in every area we'd like in order to make a change and that's why it's a tough decision. I can also tell you most of us start from scratch at least a couple of times in our lives and rarely does anyone stay with one company for life anymore. In your case, if you are needing to make a change, you are at the best age to do it. Also, because you aren't married, you don't share that type of responsibility with another person and that gives you the freedom to have several choices right now. I can also say if you are feeling this way now...it's not going change with time, you'll long for more and better even more over time. I think you've already made one decision and that is to make a change. Now the only decision left is...is this the job you want to change to? Before you decide, I'd consider the answers to these questions....With this being a temp project, how often do these projects come along? Would there be one right after this one at the same place or one months later? Do you have savings to hold you over until the next one if longer or could you find a different temp job until the next project came along? If this opportunity is not quite all of what you need...can you keep looking for one that is? No reason why you have to jump at this one (if it's not right) just because you've decided to make a change. One more point to consider...Would this new option lead you to the best circumstances and a full time, ongoing position that is more of what you want/need? Could you meet your new boss there, or get referred to somewhere good or just gain the experience to help you find the new best place from there? Would this one excite you and make you feel challenged and look forward to going to work? Sometimes the long term reward (what it could lead to and how it makes you feel now) is worth the short term risk, but if the lack of job security just makes it too risky, keep looking for one that is right. There's tons of web sites now on which to post a resume' and you sound like you have good experience (and good references) in areas that would translate well to several fields. I hope I've helped at least to give you good points to weigh and to consider while making your decision! Good luck!! Source(s): experience You basically answered your own question. There is no job security in the new job so why take it? Have you quantified how much you are going to lose by leaving the government service? Forget this job offer. There are too many uncertainties. Peace and blessings! |
