Do you have the education or training to perform the type of work you are interested in? Employers want to hire people who want to work for them and won't quit after a month. If you get an interview, do some research about the company so you can intelligently discuss it at the interview. If you have submitted applications and have not been contacted you should absolutely call them. When you call a company, ask whoever answers the phone who does the hiring. Write down the name of that person. Ask if that person has a direct phone line or an extension. If you have a resume, have it reviewed by someone you know that already has a good job. When you are applying for a position, always have a good pen with you. Black or blue ink is acceptable. No color inks. Carefully complete the application as neatly as possible. The application is usually neat if you print. Don't clutter the application with unnecessary information but be sure to answer all questions completely. If the application asks for your prior work experience have a one or two word description. If the application asks why you left you previous employer, have a good answer ready. Check your spelling. If you cannot spell, take a pocket dictionary with you. Misspelled works jump out and reflect poorly on you. I was the Vice President of Human Resources for a mid-size company. Be positive, be confident. Most of the research can be done Through Internet. Accordingly, update your CV, and boy, very soon they will want you rather than you wanting them. Life is like that. |
