What can you tell me about a career as a PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSITANT?

The physical therapy assistant is usually a 2 year degree offered at many community colleges. The field of physical therapy, as a whole, is in demand and projected to rise.

Primary responsibilities include implementing theraputic programs for patients with functional limiations after a physical therapist has evaluated the patient. For instance, a PT might evaluate a patient who has had a stroke and determined what are the balance and strength deficits and make a recommendation for treatment...the PTA will then implement the treatment (PTs can also implement treatment...the major difference is that PTs perform the evaluation and recommend treatment whereas the primary focus of the PTA is simply treatment of the patient).

Most PTAs earn somewhere between $35-$45,000 a year...a handful will break the $50,000 mark.

The job requires excellent people skills and compassion.

It is a very rewarding career.

I suggest going to the APTA website at: http://www.apta.org and review the educational programs section. Source(s): PT
