Do I have what it takes to become a cop?

I'm working on a BA in Modern Languages (French and Arabic), and a criminology minor. I also have some experience with the military (not too much though, just ROTC)...what other things would increase my chances of being accepted as a police officer?

Alot of it has to do with your general personality, they need people who have great people skills, yet can be aggressive. Also a huge part of it is physical, how strong you are and your endurance.
My husband works for the local police department and is pursuing a career as an officer. One BIG obstacle is any past drug use. Make sure you keep yourself clean. Stay in great shape because they will have you take a physical aptitude test. Learning additional languages is very helpful. If you live anyway near the southern border of America, I would recommend learning Spanish, as well. At least a little. It isn't too far removed from the French you already know, as they are both Romance languages. Other than that, you sound like you are on the right track. Be prepared for a full background check and most departments give a polygraph to make sure you aren't lying about your history. I recommend being fully honest about everything, even petty shoplifting or marijuana use. (and just so you know, they ALWAYS claim that you were lying about something and then grill you... but it's usually an act to see if they can upset you or get something out of you.) Good luck!
bribe !!! lots of it... in difrent words and different text,,,,,
Sounds like you already have what it takes, just don't pull me over.
One important factor to consider is: Are you ready to turn in your Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother or other family members if they are accused of a crime? If so, than you are on your way. On the other hand, if you and your family are threatened would you be easily convinced to become a "dirty-cop" and allow the crime(s) to continue - just to save your family? Can you not find fault in your neighbor? Can you pull the trigger of a gun and kill someone whom you have known and thought that they could do no wrong? If you are strong in your conviction and will fight for justice and the American way which should be under God... and you have a desire to help put the bad people away... Congratulations! Be sure to take out a good life insurance policy for yourself (you might want to make me one of your beneficiaries...just kidding).
I onced worked for a non-for-profit organization that operated under-cover. Here, I had to respond and place blame on several individuals. A situation that was unpleasant for me. Be careful in your choices. God,man or country, whom shall you serve?
See if any local departments have a reserve program, this will greatly increase your chances.
