Good idea? |
Is it a good idea to call the place you want to get a job at first so I can find out if they are hiring or not before I give them an employee application so i wont look dumb? "I don't want to walk in there and they tell me we are not hiring" so is it a good idea i call first and find out if they are hiring ? Yes it is a good idea and make sure to talk to the manager if at all possible. However, if you really want to work at this place then don't be put off if they say no. Ask if they know when a position might become available and if it would be ok to bring in an application so that they will have it on file when a job is open. Then follow up with more calls - not every day or anything but after a couple weeks or a month - keep your name in the manager's head and you are much more likely to get a job there. Managers like people who are interested in working for them and who show that kind of ambition - it means they are interested and will probably be a good hard worker. If you call and they say yes they are looking - then get down there and hand in your application right away.Feel free to ask if they have an idea how soon they are hoping to fill the position - sound eager but not desperate. If you don't hear from them within a week - call and remind the manager that you were there and wondering if the position had been filled. Absolutely show up there looking nice! Do not slump in there with ratty clothes and looking unkept. If it's a place that is stylish - then show up looking in style for the business place (but not freakishly so, though, - I'm sure you get it...). If it's more of a professional place - then go for the suit and tie. Good luck - best wishes for getting the job you want! Put your application in anyway and if they say the aren't hiring then just ask if they could keep it on file so you can be considered in the future. Just because they aren't hiring today doesn't mean they won't be hiring tomorrow. Its a great idea. It is called Cold Canvassing. You should call them first and ask to speak to the person incharge of hiring staff. If they are not available. leave your details, remember to ask for that persons name! If they say there is nothing available, ask them if it would be possible to send a resume for future positions. You should then type in your cover letter, something that references the conversation you had, to personalise it.
