I accepted a job at an auto delaership for an accountant but the hours are looooong. Do ya think I have a shot

at becoming the controller. The owner has hired me to replace his girlfriend at a local dealership. But I make $35,000 and work 45-50 hours a week. They have told me there will be a significant raise within 6 months and I have this in writing as well. I will be replacing the owners girlfriend as controller. I am not sure how much of a raise they will give once I do become controller, however, I will have to work 8am-6pm Monday thru friday and 9am-5pm two saturdays out of the month. Is this all worth it?

Well, let's see. What are you making now for what hours are you working now? Is Controller something that you want?
Why wouldn't it be worth it. Those aren't long hours by the way.

If you have something in writing, why don't you know how much the increase will be??? They might consider $3000
or close to 10% a significant raise.
Don't count on a pay raise those sorts of jobs don't pay much and the owner may feel anyone can do it. Always be looking for your next job, dealership jobs don't look really good on the resume it is usually basic bookkeeping.
I have a good friend who's been in the auto business for many years and still puts in ungodly hours. She's now the controller and makes a lot of money but she works all the time.
It will depend on how much the raise is....also on what other jobs you can find if you are looking. If you are going to be the controller you should have access to payroll records. That should let you know what the raise is in relation to what the other person was making. And yes the hours are long.
50x40= 2000 hours
50x50 = 2500 hours plus 24 Saturdays @8 hours = 2692 hours
692/40= 17.3 weeks out of the year you work that a person with a straight 40 hour week doesn't work. You didn't mention it , but is there health insurance? Will you get a car to drive with gas paid ? Do you get overtime for those extra hours ? These are questions I would ask. Right now 35K for 45-50 hours is not that bad.
