I am a 46 year old woman and considering becoming a taxi driver - is it a good career? Only if you love 12-16 hour days, really rude people, drunks, non tippers, back seat drivers, and nasty dispatchers that if you tick em off - will send you on every nickle and dime run they can find, give other drivers the sweet rides Source(s): Former Taxi Driver in NC, ended running my own service for a year or so. Did much better running my own service. Taxi Driver is one of the most dangerous jobs in America. Good luck. yes but long hours and weekends is a must to get the money in Also doesn't pay alot Bad timing. Taxi cab drivers usually rent thier cars from the cab company, and pay for their own gas. With the rising gas costs, the income level of many taxi drivers has been slashed. As for a career....it's not a career. It's a job. There is no upward mobility for a taxi driver. Hi My friends husband is a taxi driver, he seems to enjoy it, but i think it depends alot on who you work for or if your intending to work for yourself. He works for a local company and the boss can be abit pushy with regards to when he works and when he don't. They obviously want you working at busy times, which means they want your weekends, but if your happy with that, maybe you'll enjoy it. All the best |
