Careers helping animals? |
I'm interested in helping animals as a career, but I know for sure I do not want to be a vet. because of the surgery and what not. What are some other career possibilities? I'm a veterinary technician- but for most that still involves being around surgery, for monitoring anesthesia, opening packs for the veterinarian, and occasionally scrubbing in on a surgery. There are animal trainers, behaviorists, groomers. Some people do dog boarding. You might be able to get a job helping at a shelter or humane society. Personally, I think being a technician gives the most options, aside from being a vet- I can work with large animals or small animals, I can work in private practice(which I do), in an emergency clinic, for the government, a zoo, humane society or shelter, for the military- there are just so many things! When I was looking for a job, I got an offer to work for a place that only dealt with service dogs- I would have been helping with their care while they were in training, and if they needed any care after they went to the people who needed them. The possibilities for a technician are endless. Here's a link: www.navta.net Good luck! I love working with animals.
