Pharmacy jobs?

I graduate next year with my pharmd degree, and I'm trying to decide where to go with my career. I'm thinking of like starting at the local retailers like cvs and rightaid, which have both already offered me starting salaries of 85,000, plus vacation and great benefits. Then a few years later I would switch into the hospital pharmacys, and work there. But what I'm trying to decide, is if that is the right way to go. Because most hospitals want clinical pharmacists, so I'm trying to figure out if I should go with my original plan, or do a residency, so I can become a clinical pharmacist, and jump right into the hospital career. What do you think?

By the way, any pharmacists out there, was it easy to find a great paying hospital pharmacy job?

It depends on what you want to do. Both areas are quite different. If you are more patient centered (you like to deal with the patients, have clinics), you can try on retail. Retail pharmacy is really fast paced. Depending on the pharmacy, you may or may not have opportunities to apply the clinical things you learned. Everyone knows how chain pharmacies work. I've work at chain pharmacies and, personally, don't like it even when they pay more. I work at a hospital. I got my Pharm D and I have no specialty for now. But I can tell you that for me is really satisfying to be able to talk to doctors, answer questions and giving advice to health care professionals. I feel like I can get faster results out of my interventions when working at a hospital. Some may feel retail is the best place to help patients on the long run, giving counseling. So, it's up to you. Good luck on your career. Make us proud.
**about the pay at the hospital setting, to me is really good, but I came from Puerto Rico, and there I got paid half of what I'm doing now.**** Source(s): I'm a pharmacist.
Well I wouldn't let the offers slip between your fingers. 85,000 is a ton of money!
First DECIDE what you want to do RIGHT now and forsee yourself doing in the next 2-5 years. If you are more interested in going into a hospital, why not pursue that first? Or if you're more interested in the pharmacy retail chains, pursue that first. But the most important thing to do is decide one path to follow. If it doesn't seem right, don't do it. But make sure you have a plan A, B, and C in case things don't work out.
