generally need a special license, but not that big a deal. look up taxi commission in your state capital in government pages or on internet, see what requirements are. generally it is considered a pretty hard job, in that long hours but can scrape out a basic living. won't get rich unless you're the owner of a fleet of cabs. also, depending upon where you are, it can be a dangerous job (robbery and violence) as you're carrying cash and can be easy prey, especially at nite
Driving a taxi is not considered very skilled labor, and the amount you make will vary from very little to enough to eat on. If you own your own cab, and hustle real hard, you can make a living.
