What are employers looking for?

What do employers look for in an applicant and what are some important things to remember for an interview?

Things we look for:

People who think for themselves and don't need to be supervised in order to complete assigned tasks
People who can work well with others and fit into an existing team
People who are interested in providing solutions rather than simply surfacing complaints
People who are smart and capable, with good writing skills (#1 employer complaint these days is managers who can't write/spell!)
People who understand that you don't usually start at the top of a company unless it's owned by your parents.

Things to remember:

-Look enthused. Smile, lean forward, proffer a firm handshake, ask questions...don't make me do all of the work.
-Bring extra copies of yoru resume and references in case I want you to meet with anyone else while you're there.
-Also bring a pen and your ID in case I hire you on the spot and you need to fill out paperwork.
-Research my company ahead of time so you have some knowledge of what we do and how you'd fit in.
-Don't complain bitterly about your last job, your rude coworkers, the last 12 terrible bosses you had, or how you were passed over for three promotions. You'll just reinforce my gut feeling that you're not right for the job.
-Don't take the opportunity to tell me the Story of You beginning from grammar school. Keep your answers focused and not too lengthy - if I want more detail, I promise I'll ask.
-Give credit to others - bosses, coworkers, etc. No one does everything alone - giving credit tells me you'll work well in a team.
-Be polite - even if I'm not. Some interviewers are real pros - others just got pulled out of a meeting or off of a production line. There are all kinds - some focus on you and others unfortunately focus on their Blackberries. Stay focused and professional - follow up with a note - you may be able to pull my focus away from my task list and back to you.

Thanks for asking, and good luck!
compliant staff who will do anything to please them! You need to pose as a compliant yes man!
Someone who's themselves and who could do the job you're applying for.

Always be truthful, lies can catch up on you.
Ask friends and family to ask you some common questions and answet them the best you can.
Be confident with answering questions even if you don't feel it.
And relax when you get there, don't fidget and always look at the interviewers.

Good luck x x
Employers look for energetic, hard working people. In an interview, remember to look them in the eye when speaking, tell them you want to work for their company and can bring fresh ideas to their company.
Employee's
Everyone is looking for something different! Otherwise we would all get the first job we applied for!

On the whole though the things that are essential are to be honest, speak clearly (I interviewed one teenager who found it impossible to talk unless his hand was over his mouth!), if you don't KNOW the answer - don't make it up - you will be much better received if you just say "No, I don't know that" - after all - there's no way you will know EVERYTHING!!
It is just as irritating to interview someone that knows ALL about the company as it is to talk to someone that has never looked at the website - have relevant questions.
Turn the interview into a conversation - it will show your ability with people - but keep a watch on the interviewer - if they look bored or annoyed - SHUT UP!!!

Good luck!
They are looking for someone who has experience in that field or someone who is a graduate and willing to learn. You will be remembered if you treat that interviewer as a friend. Talk about business (that is where your research come in)and if you saw something that interested you on the website, talk about that. Good luck.
