Advice needed - new job?

Firstly - thanks to everyone who answered my last question when I was panicking about not hearing back after an audition - I have now received a phone call and been offered a role!!

BUT it overlaps my current contract by 3 days and I do not want to jeopardise my new contract in any way because I'm so excited for it!

I spoke to my current employer in all honesty today and said is there any way you can train someone else to cover for me in the last 3 days, and he said he'd rather not do that and offered to speak to my new employer to see if they can move rehearsal dates.

The thing is, i know they can't move the dates and I don't want to shake things up because I really want the new job and I haven't even received the contract yet.

So I just texted my current employer and said, thanks for understanding, the overlap sucks but I really want the new job, and he's just replied bluntly, saying "Let me speak to him, producer to producer. I will sort it"

I need to know what to do!

Ok well you got a couple of options.
1) let your current boss speak to you potential boss and see if they can sort it out
main drawback with that is current boss can say that you not going to be available for those 3 days and as result your new boss says ok we'll get someone else in.

2) You speak to new boss and say "look I really want your job, but because of the overlap, my current boss wants to talk to you and see if you can sort something out between you, as he doesn't really want to lose me for those the last 3 days"

3) tell current boss it ok as you have sorted it and then disappear for last 3 days if you haven't been able to sort something by then with new boss.

I think the big issue is that if you duck out on last 3 days of current contract it might be seen as unprofessional and that you are not reliable... How important is that within your industry? What is the likelyhood that you will be in a position where you are looking for work in the future and it turns out that someone who knows you ducked out on the last days could stop you from getting a position?

Not an answer as such but maybe a help towards making a choice.

For what its worth, if I was in your position I'd talk to new boss tell him that I wouldn't want to be unprofessional and leave 3 days early, but I do really want the role with him... has he got any suggestions? if he says well it's your choice... then basically thats the go ahead to take his job and to hell your current role and working the last 3 days!!
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

just call your new employer explaining what has happened and that you still want this job. i'm guessing it is in theatre or something like that. so just ask if it is not possible to reherse with them, can you have a copy of the script so you can reherse for the next three days alone.
Uh oh hunny, that doesnt sound very good. IF i were u i would get a way to talk to ur new employer before he gets to him... He will think ur not available!! and just move on.. You dont have a contract yet so he could do that. HURRY!!!! try to stop ur current employer and tell him thanks but no thanks!...

Good luck
I think that you have to choose what is more important to you.....your current job or the job of your dreams? Explain to your current employer that you need to miss the last three days of your contract. If you have any vacation time left use your last three days as vacation time and practice for your new role. Hopefully this advice will help you. Remember do what you wanna do and always follow your heart.
