Should you take vacation time after turning in a two week notice? |
I have a job where I have to work 35 hours per week. Can I take vacation time even though I have turned in my 2 week notice? I need the 35 hours to live off of too, but have like 70 hours of vacation/sick time built up. What do you think? No stay the two weeks it looks good and you should still get paid for your vacation time as it is something that you have already earned, it will be like a bonus for leaving, extra money No. once you gave your 2 week notice, your vacation time is up. They will no longer pay you. So stick it out. Are you asking if you can take time off while you turned in your notice?...If you are then you can, but don't expect a good recomendation. However, what you can do is get paid out for the vacation time you never took. Your employer is required to do that. silly! take it before... this way they can't refuse... You may be able to get it paid out to you. It's your time and you can do what you want with it. If there's a HR department (or person) where you work, check with them regarding pay-out policies. All companies I've been with will pay you out on un-used vacation time. you should check with your company to see how many hours of vacation they'll pay out once you leave. If they will pay the whole 70 hours, then you can get paid for all the time you work and the vacation.sick time. But if your company only pays something like 35 of the vacation hours, then take a vacation so you don't use that time. |
