When do I follow up after submitting a job application?

I turned in my job application and resume yesterday afternoon. I handed them to the manager and she said that she would check and see if there were any available job openings.

How long should I wait to call her and ask if there were any openings?

When I was job hunting I always followed up about the 3rd day. When I was in the human resource field I always suggested the 3rd day follow up also. Don't be afraid to make that call, worse case scenario is they tell you that there are no openings at this time.
I would call in 2-3 days, and follow up, you don't want to wait too long.
Give it a week, then call or re-approach... Good-Luck
I would give it a couple of days. I was a manager in charge of hiring at my previous job, and there were times that it would take me a few days to select people to interview because of a heavier than normal workload for that day. If you haven't heard anything in a couple of days, give them a call, and let them know that you filled out an application, and that you are very interested in the job. You might even ask if maybe they would set up a time for you to come in for an interview.

Whatever you do, though, don't be too pushy. It's good to show interest, but not to make yourself look like you are desperate. Your resume will speak for itself.

Good Luck!
