Feeling bad giving 2 weeks notice.....? |
Got this job, 5 minutes away from my house, as a technical recruiter....it pays 32k...the bosses are super nice and everyone is really friendly there...Been there about 2 months I just got an offer for this position that is 15 minutes away from my house and pays 40k as a Tech support guy (which is related to my major) Anyway the question is how do I word a 2 weeks notice to a job that really likes you? Everyone is so friendly and cooperative, almost like the brady bunch. I'm still sort of in training so I dread just coming in and giving 2 weeks notice. How do I handle this situation? BTW I am definetly taking that offer Be very professional and upfront. Be sure to give 2 full weeks if not more. In your letter of resignation be sure not to put anything about the salary of the other position. I know you said you were taking the job but, be sure that you understand that you are leaving a company that you like and that seems to like you and they treat you well. Those things are hard to come by in this world sometimes. SO be sure that your sure... the difference in salary is small all in all. Be sincere, point out the positives and why you hate to leave.... Good references are hard to come by and you don't want to burn bridges stay postive and use this site to help you out http://jobsearch.about.com/od/resignatio... I'm assuming your position as a recruiter has a $32K base plus commission. You should make much, much more than $40K as a recruiter. However, if it's not for you, take the other job. You will actually cost your current employer less if you turn over early instead of later. Just tell them, "everyone has been wonderful, it's a great company, it's just not what I expected..." 10+ years recruiting and HR. I know I have been there; but it is 8K different and in your field. Give them the standard Dear John letter and give them the 2 week notice. If they ask just say, you need more money. I absolutely adored the people at my last two jobs, but the first I left for a 9K increase, the second was a whopping $ 15 k increase. Together, I am making $24K more than if i was still working at the first company. I think they understand that you want to improve your standard of living just like everyone else. If you watch P Diddys Making the band 4, you know like when Mike Bivens told one of the guys that they sent home: "We have love for you;but we are not in love with you". It is all about the Bejamins, all about the Benjamins. |
