Is It Ok To Resign In The Middle of A Project? |
My company is working me to death on several projects (80+ hours/week) and has no sympathy. I would like to resign and move to another company but I am in the middle of a big project. If I leave, my employer will not have the resources to complete the project so the client will have to (and probably want to) use the new employer's company (and me) to finish the project. I also don't want the client to have any problems because of my decision. Is there any problem with resigning in the middle of a big project like this. Legally no, there is no issue. However, you would be burning a bridge with a former employer, and you'd be surprised how fast word spreads. If you get a job offer which is great, by all means resign and be apologetic that you are leaving in the middle of this huge project. However, if you do not already have another offer, I'd stay put. Source(s): 10+ years HR experience. STAY you may get a raise if you tough it out. If you value your career, sense of professionalism, and possible future resources, then yes, it is a problem. It may be long and difficult but is losing respect from others more important? I highly doubt it. Stick it out and enjoy the sense of accomplishment and pride you'll get when it's complete. Not be sound like a smarty pants, but uh, how would YOU feel if you were paying someone to build your house, and they just left and didnt come back, and took all the materials with them so no one else could finish the job without having to start all over ? I think u'd be rather ticked , I know I would. Staying in a bad situation is never ever easy, but, if you are in the middle of the project, look at it like this.... ur half way home ! Its all downhill from here and will be over with soon. You really dont want to have that sort of black mark following you around, and it WILL follow you around |
