I temp for a doctor and when he comes into the office and hears me on the phone telling his patients that I'm covering for his secretary who's on holiday and that I'm a temp, he'll say the above. Why?
Customers, or patients, often want to deal with the same people that they knew took care of them the last time. Telling them you're there temporarily usually tells them that they need to speak to someone else with experience. This could cause a burden on the doctor if he has to get involved.
Just state your name and never say your temporary or you don't know about something. Always say, "I will find out for you." Because his patients might think that you don't know what you are doing.
