Do you work in a union? Do you agree with their policies? Do you feel well represented? |
My work site is on the verge of a decertification vote. Not sure if the union really represents the worker. Perhaps it's time to look hard at your officers, your union is only as strong as it's members and it's representation. As a member of the IAFF, I wouldn't work for a non union organization again. I know I wouldn't work without one. I'm a teacher. The union guarantees me a contract day, a lunch break, protection from losing my job, a guaranteed prep period and pay for extended work...and I'm a rep too. Trade Union movement is one of the noblest initiative which helped the unorganized and exploited labour force to come together and demand their rights in the most civilized way as per the law of each land. However, each coin has two sides. The noblest thoughts of the forefathers have been abused and misused by the next generation of so calle leaders. Morethan the collective demand, they have used unions to meet their personal objectives of making money, fame and security in life. Trade Unions have helped people in manufacturing, teaching, service industry including banking etc to a very large extent. However, in todays progressive economic world, collective bargaining has no meaning. Therefore I think, the important of trade unions have also come to a lower platform. |
