Why am I having "cold feet" about a job/career move?

For the past month, my job has been hell. It's always been stressful, very stressful, but the last month has been hell. ON top of that, in Sept 10% of the corp office was let go, then a month ago, 4 departments were outsourced, and they are talking of outsourcing once more. My job can be replaced or handled by someone else easily, ut I have kinda been assured that I wouldn't get laid off so I started looking. I found a job with a great location, same pay, less stress and possible job advancement (there is none here for me). SO WHY AM I SECOND THINKING THIS? I was offered the position, and accepted, but why am I having second thoughts? Why am I scared I willr egret my decision or something? I've been at my current job for three years.

Because change always brings uncertainty. And, you may even feel a little bit of guilt at leaving when they have told you that you wouldn't be let go. Obviously the company is having problems - most likely financial. You never know, but you could wind up being one of these people that shows up to work one morning and finds the place shut down and padlocked.

Take the new job. You have to look out for your future, and it sounds like you have a better chance of a good future with the new job.

Good luck! Source(s): Left a job a few years ago because they started having financial issues. Felt guilty about it as I was also told I would not be let go and that my department would be the last to go or have any layoffs from (we were the only profitable department in the company). Well, I left. Found a new job making 25% more with better benefits and better future opportunities, and the old job - shut the doors down less than a year later with no notice to the remaining employees. Had I stayed, I would have received a severance check of about $10,000, but I had made more than that in salary difference with the new job.
Because change is difficult. You have to learn a different routine, different people, different company culture.

You made the right position, and you will only be nervous for the first day or two and then things will start to feel comfortable again.
Me
It's natural to feel like you do. You've been at your current job just long enough to feel "comfortable"....you know the people, the jargon, the job, etc...
Now..you find yourself giving up that safe feeling for unknown territory...people you don't know...jargon that will be different..will you fit in? Will you like your co-workers? Your new boss?
Fear of the "unknown" is natural...look at it as a new "adventure"..a chance to make some changes on some things you may not really like about yourself....to make new friends, to learn something new...it's always a challenge when something in your life changes...
Embrace it...sounds like your new job will fit "you" so much better than your current one! Or, you could wait to be laid-off, and then the wonderful new job could be snapped up by someone else...leaving you without either one!
And remember, if you really find you hate this new job...it's much easier to find a job when you HAVE one, than when you're unemployed....
48 years (and counting!) on this planet
is always like that for me but you will be find sounds to me you would be better off there.. the other place is going under be assured your job is never safe even if you in paper... go the feeling will be gone after you get there
